Your Kind Of Kitchen ?

I was just looking at the NZ Master Builders Awards entries , and to be honest , most of the houses didn't do heaps for me -- theres only so many variations you can do , and most don't seem brave enough to do bold colours or similar .

And then I saw this kitchen ! It says where it is , and the name of the bulder , but I haven't looked any further -- this is the only picture on the Awards website . Initially I thought it had glass fronted fridges ( like a commercial kitchen ) but then I realised they are temperature controlled for wine .

Theres no real fridge , or pantry , or similar , to be seen , so I assume there is a Butlers kitchen too , but as a kitchen ( or bar haha ) I like this !

Hi Complete Kitchens....Yes, I realise that 20k could get a good standard kitchen (our own one recently done was about 26k including scullery), I'm more talking about the ones that talk about doing kitchen, bathroom, painting and even moving some walls on 20k. What my point was, is its great when people like you actually give an idea of a cost of a project - it's easy to get fired up with inspiration and then get thoroughly dissapointed when reality hits! Things are expensive these days and I think for some who may not have done any renovations to their house for years, they don't really have a lot of idea of the costs involved.

Great job on the kitchen and I agree with some of the former comments - a glass splash back would look good and the silver seems a good choice. If you decide to go with tiles I would suggest a White Tile with a smattering of Black and Grey markings with the colors prominent not subdued. I wouldn't think Brown but why not experiment with a few different colors and see how they look and in conjunction with other colors until you come up with a match. Only a small area but nice to get it just right first go. Good luck

I will use my phone in the kitchen if I receive a call/text while there. But otherwise, no. And I avoid using my tablet in the kitchen: water, oils and what-have-you simply don't go well with technology. Very occasionally I will use my tablet to consult a recipe. But I prefer my recipes on paper out so I can attach them to a handy surface (fridge door, stovetop extractor fan) for easy reference while cooking. I don't "hang out" in my kitchen (it's a food preparation room, not the eating/dining area) so there's no other reason to be in there using a tablet.

It is to look at, but to work in, maybe not. The layout is to spread for working, spinning around on one leg, and arms reach between the fridge, sink and stove. It is a statement not a cook’s kitchen.

The Wine Cooler should be in the middle you mean ? Haha . . . . . .

Looking at the small window you can partially see , it looks like its quite an old house ( a flat wooden window sill ) , and I suspect most people and most designers would have gone fairly standard and just had a window along the end , with a bench below , rather than those folding french doors , but I really like the indoor / outdoor feel .

Being a guy , my cooking is maybe on the 'basic' end of the scale ( anything fancy is more likely to be microwaved or bought in haha ) so I'd have no problems with it .

And your last sentence may be a give-away Kay -- there is presumably a butlers pantry to at least partially prepare the food , so this being more show than go mightn't be a huge problem /
