Need help to choose balustrades for the new deck, on my post war home
Comments (8)Well I know you want to be true to the house & reuse what you can but I would probably go with a more modern style like the stainless wire and timber top rail rather than dowels or timber for the infill. Be mindful of building code for the infill as horizontal is climbable and has to be very close together. There is so much upkeep in timber & if you go with the vertical metal rod look with the timber top plate maybe...? I am not an expert on any era or style though I know you will have a preference in mind & I would go with that. Look at the big picture of how your house will look with a change of paint (are you painting the house?) & for me it was about making the 25 year old house more contemporary. We love it!...See MoreNeed Help For Suggestions on Fence Railing Colour between Brick Pillar
Comments (6)A bit hard to know what to say here if it's only the fence colour you are wanting opinions on. I would definately go for black or dark charcoal for the fence, but I agree that it may not work with the house. The problem is the cream colour is very outdated. If you put a cream fence it will work better with the house as it is now, but then you are stuck with an outdated colour scheme. If it was me I would probably do a dark charcoal fence, and then slowly work on updating the colour scheme of the actual house - for example, the same charcoal for the garage doors, posts, colourbond fence, shed etc. But it would come down to budget, I guess....See MoreHelp house exterior colours & railing
Comments (37)I Like the up down cylinder/square black lights but your lights are high set so it would be just down light. I have a light like the last photo but it's a chunky cylinder instead of square, I think I got it at Bunnings ages ago, it's on an internal courtyard wall and looks amazing when turned on. Could your cousin do one of each, ie: up down and just down, Just down on the entrance as you don't want to light up the entrance ceiling and up down on the tall wall, it would be great if it could be dropped down a bit. cheers...See MoreNeed help deciding on a balustrade style
Comments (12)also love the existing railing and have seen steel mesh panels attached to the inside of a open steel railing and wonder if something similar would look good and satisfy safety regulations ...the mesh panel was flat dark grey sheet steel with holes punched in it and from a distance (with the white fence in front) looks like dark shadow and up close like very thick solid fly screen...an extra horizontal top rail would add more height if necessary and the result would create more shelter and privacy from the street.... otherwise a new steel fence with square steel pickets and top and bottom rails and make sure the old railing is offered for re-use or recycled...See MoreDeb Xuereb
