Humble Hideaway to Exuberant Oasis: A Stunning Cottage Transformation
We were approached by the client when she bought her first property after moving around for many years with her medical training. What she wanted was a sanctuary to come home to after a long day's work. The home had great bones with 3 bedrooms, one bathroom and two living areas but was quite outdated and lacked minor functional elements.
Floor Plan Before:
The initial plan was to engage us to provide cosmetic renovation work, with some key existing components such as the existing bathroom and kitchen, to preserve the budget.
We implemented some minor renovations with cabinetry additions. Firstly the creation of a large library unit in the main lounge room and banquette seating into the informal lounge which added valuable storage to the QLD-style cottage and gave the rooms structure to formalise an effective furniture layout. We added glass-fronted cabinets to the kitchen overheads along with window coverings, a rug and styling items to dress up the practical white kitchen that was already in place.

In the other areas we designed classic uber-comfortable custom piece utilising a mix of patterns and colours to introduce personality reflective of the owners' exuberant style. We selected a mix of new and antique furniture to create a fresh and classic take on the cottage style. We designed and installed custom-made window coverings and sourced and styled all of the decorator items, art and lighting for the guest room, 2 x living areas, kitchen, dining and powder room.

We helped the client to prioritise areas to roll out the decorating and renovation work to maximise her budget whilst designing a comprehensive renovation of her enclosed veranda for a master wing. This major phase of the entire home project meant we were able to enclose one end of her existing enclosed veranda/sunroom and create access to the master bedroom turning it into an ensuite and robe. This gives the home a larger master suite, second bathroom and oodles of storage. Along with this extra functionality, it formalised the entry to the cottage and we created another sitting area/breakout space with the addition of more banquette seating to enjoy the warmth of the sunroom in a cold Toowoomba winter.

To complete the master wing renovation was a complete redecoration of the master bedroom swathing it in a restful deep blue and layering chartreuse and apricot tones in soft furnishings, window coverings, rugs and bedding to complete the decorating scheme.

Naturally, when the client was expecting her first child she asked us to design a sweet little nursery for her baby girl which was such a thrill (keep an eye out for images soon). We adore designing for all stages of life and as our client began to think about spending more time at home with the baby we implemented a simple garden renovation to complete the cottage look.
This project has been an absolute joy to design and a privilege to implement.
