How can I make my ensuite bigger? Moving W/I robe?
Comments (24)Having lived for years with a front loader in the kitchen under counter and now with a good sized laundry I am resenting the laundry for the space it wastes! I would rather have a "european solution" and a good en-suit and walk in :) really it is a matter of how you want to live, in reality if you spend your life considering resale you won't enjoy your home, prospective purchasers will love or hate whatever you do, those that don't want a space solution will be the ones who want the big ensuite and robe anyway! Do it with love then others will love it too, good luck...See MoreHow to make brown aluminium Windows look better?
Comments (12)Honestly, cladding the house in grey because it is trendy right now is only going to date your renovations and is not going to do anything special to the house. What is the finish on the house now? I'm assuming you are cladding to save on maintenance which is very wise, but if you paint the windows you are only going to start another maintenance issue. The finish on them now has been designed to last - paint won't. I also note you have brown posts on the verandas, brown/cream tiles on the ground and a cream fence - this all has to be taken into consideration if you want to change to a grey palette and achieve something really special. It has to be a total package. Unfortunately, colours do not reproduce on computer screens so there is no point in me suggesting colours, but I would call in a cladding specialist or 3, they are used to doing this type of work and generally know what the finished result will look like to advise you. They should be able to suggest colours that will blend better with the browns and creams but still give the house a more individual and timeless look. If you are still not sure, put the photos of your house onto a Paint Company's website and paint it in a similar colour. To me though, this house really needs some softening, I think a bit of a cottage look will make it look much more warmer and welcoming. It is just not blending in with its environment. Work on your landscaping - look on Houzz for some ideas for a front path to lift your home out of the ordinary, you don't have to spend a fortune, just be creative, change the hand railing, maybe even fence the veranda or grow a hedge in front of it and screen one (or both) ends of it to give you some privacy to sit out there, Perhaps grow a creeper across under the guttering to really soften the front of the house and make the veranda more welcoming. Beautiful, well kept lawns and gardens and some special outdoor areas in your back garden will really enhance the house so the brown windows will cease to become an issue....See MoreHow can architects better communicate services when first meeting you?
Comments (5)As I've stated time and time again in other posts, everything invariably comes down to money..........yes oklouise the process involves various parties (client, council, bank, builder etc) however IMO the designer is the executive expert in creatively negotiating and resolving the solution most effectively as they (should) have the knowledge and or connections/ across the many relevant areas in order to balance the needs of the project within the contextual conditions and nominated (financial) limitations........the issue I think is that when professionals fail to identify and manage the critical elements and priorities when proposing a solution, disappointment (of course) occurs and unfortunately the reputation of (the design service) "not being worth it" substantiated - I completely understand/see that following some (unfortunate) experiences you've become experienced/knowledgeable yourself in being able to achieve what you're seeking with your own skill, and that's great......but others (with less capacity/experience in that regard) can become caught/influenced going down the wrong path misinformed or limited to obtain the best solution for their particular needs because they don't understand what front end investment in the design process can achieve, and that is appropriate alignment of people's goals within budget - but for this to be successful services have to be performed in a particular (efficient) format and the designer needs to be able to (quickly) apply/project super accurate costings to specific proposals and that takes specific experience and skill..................this is right here is one of the significant challenges of our particular professional, as from where we stand, we can seriously help people, but people have to have the money, trust in, and commitment to the design process, which is not black and white, nor scientific, and be challenging on various levels.......you hit the nail with the comment "trust that their ideas can be converted to reality without any horrible surprises"........it seems to me, from experience, that the money conversation is often strategically avoided early in the professional relationship because the pro's are scared they'll possibly lose the job, when in fact it should be tackled head on assertively and realistically.........it's pretty simple, clear communication and honesty - more of that would go a fair way in avoiding the issues plaguing this game ;)...See MoreHow can I better use that wasted space at the top of our wardrobes?!
Comments (9)i would invest in long term comfort and convenience and also raise the top shelf to create space for three levels of hanging space on one side, tall adjustable shelves or drawers with only enough space above the top shelf for suitcases and/or boxes of seasonal storage .. you need to design the space to suite the size and shape of what you need to store and a handyperson or carpenter could build in some of the diy wardrobe components like Multistore to help manage the space better or consider having a wardrobe company custom make the whole space to make life easier...See Moresiriuskey
