Paint colour ideas?
Comments (13)Thanks Louise, I'm still leaning towards the grey. At the moment I'm thinking Dulux flooded gum for the walls and dulux monument for the roof with white gutters and trims. Still not sure about going white for garage & entrance doors or paint them in the monument....See MoreWhat colour to paint pavers/ideas for courtyard
Comments (9)Hi Aletla, If your apartment is part of a strata make sure that you get their permission before painting anything (best ask then fall foul of them as many courtyards are deemed as common property for exclusive use meaning that the Strata has the last word). If you get permission, I'd be tempted to lean towards a mid gray the same colour as the exterior building so that you're able to blur the lines between vertical and horizontal areas and make the area look bigger. You could think about putting in modular decking that will change the look of your courtyard that can be pulled up and that can be stained to any colour you pick. You would have to ask your strata but if you let them know it's modular and can be pulled up when you leave they should be OK with that as long as it cant be seen easily from outside the property boundaries. Regarding putting up shade - strata will not have any problem if you invest in a large outdoor umbrella as long as you make sure that it doesn't become a hazard during high winds/storms - you wont have to ask them. You can put up outdoor awnings but you'll need to get permission, supply all the engineering specs and your Strata may have restrictions regarding colour and style and may require you to: provide a structural engineers report on the impact, indemnify the building and put the awning on your insurance (a lot of work) and if necessary pay for a change of by-law. If you decide that you cant/don't want to change the colour of your outdoor flooring and as beige and grays are really popular, you could always tie the two together more with outdoor cushions for your seating that feature both of the colours. If you can get a high pressure hose and remove dirt and flaking paint to see exactly what the condition of the tiles are, you could ask your strata to pay for their reconditioning (if you offer to paint them and give them the colour and say you're happy to pay for that then they'll probably say "OK" to avoid costs to the strata as they're responsible for the external parts of your building - remember you only own the airspace of your apartment)....See Moreideas what colour to paint front door
Comments (2)Just a few things to consider. Front doors are special doors, and I think they always look great if you paint the same colour on the outside and on the inside, as well as the edges. That way you never have the problem of where to start and finish the outside colour, and there is no messy edging where two colours meet. Your whole exterior could do with a freshen up as it is looking a bit tired and dated to be honest. I would not paint your front door until you have worked out your colours for the rest of the house. I would use the brickwork as a starting point, as you would not want to paint your brickwork, and find colours that are complementary to your brickwork. Part of your external colour solution will include a front door colour that works with the rest of your new external colour scheme. If it was my home I would be considering a soft green, like a light Eucalyptus colour as a starting point to complement and off-set the strength of the terracotta brickwork for my external colours, and perhaps a deeper, darker Eucalyptus colour for the door. If you can't visualise how colours work then you may be best engaging a colour consultant to help you prepare as colour schedule explaining what colours should go where if you decide to update the front of your house beyond just the front door. Comments (3)I’m pretty much with .dreamer, but 50s furniture would have been placed in houses with wainscoting, so not odd, what is throwing me out is the cool colour of plaster. Start by painting it to match the wainscoting then reassess. Colour and warmth can be added by your wall hangings and furniture. Natural white is slightly warm, could go warmer shade again....See MoreUser
