Art deco home renovation/extension suggestions needed!
Comments (41)Hi Sarah, hope you enjoyed your travels last night, that's something we have spent our lives doing plus living in different countries. Do look into the attic room/s they are lovely and the Velux skylights very unobtrusive, look great and if positioned correctly take care of venting any hot air, as I mentioned ours were pivoting ones and could be locked open in several positions. I much prefer these to dormer windows, you don't really notice them. The stairs were built off site and lifted into position and installed, built in. At the time we did ours a very good friend a builder did the same but just completely opened the whole ceiling space right out towards the gutters into a large bedroom play study area for his daughters, also using Velux windows. Glass ceilings, like Velux windows have been around for years, believe me I know, we're both getting older. Velux windows can be used as glass ceilings in opening and non opening configurations. I would love to see you keep the outdoor loo as well and updating the old shed into a new connecting space to the house, perhaps a glass breezeway. I will have another look at your plan again over the weekend. I love your front iron gate as well, auto sliding driveway gates work really well and would really fit with your carport. My brother in law put in a tall timber sliding gate at his last home, lovely cheers...See MoreCladding advice for my exterior update
Comments (5)It's ultimately personal, and as always a matter of priorities/tastes, but for maximum impact/value adding for minimum spend I'd consider just a painting update to the facade (accept/work with finishes at they exist & embrace the existing style) and agree with some of the other comments re the landscaping - consider the landscaping solution and elements as just as at least important as the building and they need to balance/compliment each other appropriately. Money into changing cladding for the sake of it arguably is not as well spent as investment in developing properly defined/structured/focused elements for the front yard and making it a space and an asset to your property.....good luck :)...See MoreReno facade design help please
Comments (7)I love the stone, it reminds me of the classic Sydney Northern Beaches cottage which is often weatherboard and sandstone. If you google Avalon beach cottage you will see what I mean. I personally think the addition of natural timber is too much as an additional finish. I’d probably continue with the weatherboard. The deck you could then do in timber and let it fade to grey....See MoreAgainst the Griege
Comments (0)Lick colour was engaged to provide a new exterior colour scheme to update this residential apartment building in Chatswood. Predominately, the building is a dirty shade of white. Painting walls into ceilings in resting areas helps to delineate those spaces and further highlight where colour has been used to create focal points of interesting architectural details. The dusty-pink colour-blocked areas create a fresh contrast with the dark khaki and charcoal elements. Featured window sills help pull the pink back into the facade. The dark khaki—a lick custom-colour—highlights the building’s entrance, and anchors boundary and garden retaining walls into the surroundings. The warm and cool colour combination creates a masculine to feminine ‘push-pull’ and blurs boundaries. I've been working as a colour consultant with strata committees for years now and often there’s a tendency to play it safe. It’s exciting and rewarding when they’re willing to be more adventurous and create something the community can enjoy. The most successful colour outcome will consider the building’s form, its location, the surrounding environment and the requirements of the inhabitants. This current obsession with “Three Shades of Grey” or ‘greige’ (the new beige) is wearing thin. In most cases it’s cold, unfriendly, unwelcoming and hardly the setting for a happy environment. I’m pleased that clients are now looking for something different. As designers I believe it’s our responsibility to push boundaries and challenge the norm and ultimately, to be accountable for the work we are putting into the environment. Resene paints were used throughout the project. When it comes to colour they are number one in the market place and as an independent designer they offer me and my clients fantastic customer service. Lick colour are industry accredited professionals. Colour is our business, we pride ourselves on being leaders in market place trends. We look forward to providing you with a consulting service that maximises your investment and creates an impressive streetscape statement....See MoreC P
