Australia's harsh climate requires homeowners to be especially proactive in keeping their home safe, and one of the first steps we learn is regularly testing our smoke alarms.
Multiple fire & rescue groups recommend testing every month and replacing batteries entirely every year. We want to hear from you how often you test your alarms? Vote and tell us why in the comments.
Yeah, my alarms test me too, they love to go off around 2am for no reason at all. At least the local Fire Brigade are happy to come and disconnect them for me so I can get some sleep - gives them something to do in the wee small hours. Sparky has checked and double checked and can't find a problem at all, but still they go off.
Mine get tested every time we make toast (toaster gets cleaned every week, but it still sets off the alarm!). Also when we are cooking something without the rangehood on!
