Help with Colour and Interior Design Theme
Comments (7)Yes, use them, just add some modern elements to counteract them. Walls must change, and bring in metallic, maybe bronze or brushed brass in a coffee table, it works well to make nostalgia into luxe. The curtains work ok here, just update their hanging system. If those mustard chairs are grannies, I wish I had that gran. The blue is perfect with mustard, and vibrant enough to detract and contrast the mint green carpet. I would definately select a colour in that rug, perhaps I can see a slight coral red, then I would introduce varying shadesof this diluted down into pastel tones. This will comp, ement the mint and subtly introduce more depth of colour which will overtake the institution green. Paint your walls absolutely. Not beige. I would go with a Chocolate colour, I think the richness would work with that lounge suite and also MInt green and chocolate are friends. Chocolate is also complementary to stones, beiges, creams and coffees, so whatever direction your kitchen eventually goes, chocolate will work. And if not, it's only paint. To make it livable now and still have some sort of positive edge about it, I'd try risky colours and textures, ones that work but ones you probably wouldn't even think of unless you had a mint green carpet. You could always rip up the carpet and see what lies beneath. Maybe there's timber there, or concrete. Either are a bonus....See MoreLove or Loathe? Wallpaper on the ceiling
Comments (11)I selected Neither - Reason. I think that particular room looks great because a huge amount of expense has gone into making that room picture perfect. It is unrealistic to think that the average home buyer / owner will have that kind of money to invest in a room. Generally I would never put wall paper on a ceiling. The only thing that has made this room work is that they have been able to invest a lot of money into making sure this room is "show room" quality by matching the paper and the carpet and all the furnishings. It is not a homely room. It is a room for a palace or for the rich and famous. You could not relax in this room and I do not think the average family would ever allow their family to use this room - most of us do not have "special occasion" rooms....See MoreArchitraves, skirting - modern semi industrial interior
Comments (10)Ania, funnily enough I almost posted this very tongue-in-cheek comment: 'If anyone ever finds a fail-safe way to keep dust out of homes in this country I would like to know!' We live in very dusty regional area and have shadow-line skirting. It looks great but it does catch dust. I have a thin attachment on vacuum which I use to help remove it, but it's not perfect solution. Even though it's a new build and I'd like everything to be perfect 'as new,' I've decided not to sweat the small stuff in life, and get myself outdoors instead....See MoreShould I use a Interior designer to pull this together
Comments (9)Thanks everyone for your feedback, I appreciate the honesty and agree with some of the points raised. I took a punt on the colours (whisper white & Oolong) and styling (bulkhead and nook feature wall) after talking with a Dulux colour consultant (via Skype). The Kitchen layout definitely needs to re-organised, as well as replacing the tiles and the grey (!) cement grout. The cabinets are poorly designed with a single shelf in each, so have a lot of under utilised storage space. I recently had a consultancy session with IKEA kitchens, just to get an idea of what the possibilities exist in making better use of the existing kitchen layout (without expanding its existing kitchen footprint). As per my original posting, l Would like to be able to tie these projects together and coordinate them as one project rather than have separate projects for kitchen, flooring, decorating and furnishings. The next step is to make contact with an designer and discuss and get someone through my front door. Once again thanks for all your feedback. Cheers...See MoreUser
