Exterior Render | Color dilemma

Trying to pick a render color on our farm house.

- Shed is colorbond Wallaby

- A colorbond wallaby 1.8 fence is going between shed and carport

- ignore yellow (!) rollerdoors - theyre going.

- carport will be a timber look panel lift door

- window frames are (jnfortunfortunately) SPC Magnolia (cant go there paintimgting)

- gutter is Colorbond Ironstone grey

- roof is (a bit faded) colorbond grey too

Plants will break the wall along the shed and front of house.

HELP, what color render, facia and verandah post color?

i would have Wallaby for the render, black or white for the Fascias and a red (like the bare earth and to tone with the timber look roller door) for the posts

Ironstone for the posts to tie in with the gutter, and then I would choose a different colour (not grey) for the render … perhaps something that brings out the warm tones of the Wallaby and ties the house into the bushy/rural setting a bit?

The Bricks are OK, if you like them, keep that round feature deck in the brick and render the rest, or stone clad the feature and render the rest, or cheapest of all just paint the rest in a dark warm neutral and render the round feature in a lighter but similar tone. You have the windows to consider. If you changed the colour of them you could also change the overall colour scheme from warm to cool. Although a black and white scheme is current, it looks better on timber houses and in suburban and inner city areas in my opinion. There are lots of different elements to your house which would look more integrated if you chose a warm colour scheme with a maximum of 3 colours. You can even make the bricks work if you paint upstairs a warmer colour to match them and changed the tiles and front steps to wood. Wood integrates everything in a warm colour scheme.

Which white? External render dilemma

Hi all, it's now 2020! I'm at render stage and would love it to be white but the renderer I spoke with this morning said to think long and hard about 'white! as it gets dirty very easily especially taking into account the recent dust-storm, not to mention the ash and smoke from the ongoing bushfires. I would like to know: how your respective white renders are coming along in regards to appearance, staining and maintenance; and what type of render and render finish do you have? I am looking at a sandy Rokcote acrylic render. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated!!

Thanks heaps Lesley. We ended up choosing timeless grey as the main render and sticking with all our previous choices. We found a house being built in it literally a few streets away so have seen it in all lights and weather conditions and feel it will look good. Fingers crossed!!

I would render white or sage green. With the fascia, and verandah posts painted ironstone or white. I would also look at beefing up the verandah posts. You could also do the home render in white or sage green then clad the posts in timber to compliment your carport door. You don’t want too many different colours on the whole look.

If you’re keeping the windows you can’t ignore their colour in your whole colour scheme. Without any other Magnolia/cream elsewhere they will always look like you spent money everywhere but the windows and they’ll stick out. You either need to keep that colour as an accent at about 10% of the colour scheme or add more to bring it up to about 30%. The shed and the fence will mean that Wallaby is your most dominant colour. And Ironside is looking at being the secondary colour. You want to aim for no more than three colours in about a 60:30:10 proportion. Occasionally additional accents like wooden posts etc are OK to be used.
