Bathroom bugbears - which bad habits annoy you most?
Comments (5)Have my bathroom all to myself and its always sweet smelling and clean. The toilet is well insulated in its own room well away from the rest of the busy areas, also just how I like it with its own wash basin, positioned just inside the back door off the laundry/mud room, accessible from the outside as well. Was thinking just the other day how fortunate I am in this respect, given that I bought an old country cottage...from the days when toilets had just come inside from being the "outhouse" or "dunny". So, toilet at the rear of the house, inside, but separate and privte,no odours and noises wafting to the rest of the house. Seems to me that back then, people had a better sense of hygene and more sensibility than today. When there were no flushing loos, (and even when the first iron above head cisterns with chain that you pulled came in) the "dunny" was still "down thr garden path". Mind you, those were the days of chamber pots that lived in little purpose built cabinets in the ...chamber....Then came the commode that looked like a bedroom chair but designed to hold a chamber pot. Cannot see the sense in having a loo sitting in its glory in a bathroom or worse in the ensuite! Am sure that visitors appreciate my loo as much as I do. If I were purchasing or building I would have to insist on a ventilated, insulated separate toilet well away from the rest of the rooms. If I had an ensuite as well as a main bathroom, the toilet would have to be sepatate, well insulated and ventilated....See MoreWhat are the most used brands?
Comments (2)Working as a plumbing showroom consultant for many years (past life) I dealt with many architects and designers. All used different product. Offen depends on client/budget. Usually best to give them (suppliers) an idea of what you want and they will come up with value for money options and know what brands offers decent aftersales care. . minimal fuss... As for exact brands.. that will depend on where you shop or have accounts with. Once you find your sales person.. you will be in business. over the 14 years I was in that industry I helped many-a-design student with assignments, many of which I then received many orders from! ! Comments (50)I'm about to put a cooktop on the 2.3 x 900 peninsular (island with only one free end ( in my new galley kitchen. I am using an induction top so it can be fitted flush with the benchtop surface, allowing me to use the whole area as benchtop when not in use. I intend to have bar stolls on the living room side for entertaining. My joiner has suggested making a beautiful, thin timbercover to go over the glass induction surface for added protection. I just need to decide on down draft induction hob or a ceiling casette. My main aim is to remove the smelly cooking smells from my unit. The smell from one evening of cooking indian chicken curry currently lasts at least a week! Any advice?...See MoreWorkplace kitchen for small family business
Comments (6)On the assumption that your kitchen is limited to just a staff lunchroom, and not a food preparation area for your business then you need to be careful that there are no choke points, such as the corner where the sink is currently drawn. Looks like a great corner to stack used coffee cups for somebody else to worry about! It is a pity that the location of the existing plumbing is dictating the location of the kitchen cabinetwork. If there was the option I would put the kitchen on the wall adjacent to the display hall, and run a bar bench with stools under a new wider window. An island bench opposite the kitchen bench would also give more flexibility to food preparation in peak hour, minimise choke points and provide additional seating. A bench adjacent to the window would make the for a more pleasant place to sit, without being forced to share a table with your work collegues. Nobody spends much time using a staff room kitchen so it shouldn't have the best spot which is adjacent to the window! Best of luck, Dr Retro of Dr Retro House Calls...See Moresiriuskey
